Week 6: A Little Background about Chris McAllister

After almost 16 years in the real estate business, and 30 years of renting, buying and selling homes, our Fearless Leader and founder of ROOST Real Estate Co. Chris McAllister has a solid picture of what a real estate company should look like.

From 1985 to 2000 Chris worked in retail management and his last assignment was opening and managing Target stores in Long Island and Queens New York. From 1985 through 2000 Chris and his family moved 17 times to new stores and new markets in the Midwest and the East Coast. 17 moves in 15 years will teach anyone a lot about the real estate business!

In 2001 Chris earned his real estate sales license in Ohio and became a successful agent at the leading local firm.

In 2003 Chris purchased a RE/MAX franchise opened three offices in and around Springfield, Ohio. Life was great, business was booming, but then the slump of ’08 hit. While the Springfield and Dayton area did not experience the insane highs of other parts of the country, they certainly felt the lows.

During 2009, after experiencing first-hand the devastating effects of the real estate crash and recession, Chris associated his team with the local firm where he began his career. In a word, he hunkered down and figured out how to navigate the storm.

By 2012, Chris is the first to admit, he started to get a little restless. While he is grateful for those years and the people he worked with, he felt something was missing from the market. Chris began researching new opportunities and other franchises.

In 2013 Chris realized that none of the companies he interviewed were the right fit for him. While there are some good things about the big international brands, they were all missing elements he thought were critical to creating a successful, scalable and sustainable company. Chris started work on a business plan for a real estate brand that would soon become ROOST Real Estate Co.

It was time to bring something new into the real estate world.
